Dear Dr. Seligson:

I am currently employed as a special agent with the United States Department of State, Diplomatic Security Service, assigned to the U.S. Embassy in La Paz, Bolivia. In March 2000, I traveled from Guatemala City, Guatemala (my prior duty station) to Rockville for LASIK surgery. Prior to the surgery, my contact lens prescription was -6.50 in my right eye and -5.00 in my left. While contact lenses are much more convenient than glasses, they still offer certain disadvantages, especially in my current position. Living oversees in sometimes harsh environmental conditions can make contact lenses more of an inconvenience then a convenience. Although it has taken me some time to write this letter, I wanted to share the very positive and rewarding experience I had with TLC Rockville.

After my initial contact with TLC Rockville, I was immediately impressed by the professionalism of your staff. I was fortunate to work very closely with Clinical Optometrist Dr. Ron Pei throughout my TLC experience. Dr. Pei assisted me from start to finish with arranging my surgery, answering my many questions, and making me comfortable with the upcoming procedure. Additionally, TLC staff members Jeannie Trainor, Monique Samuel, Terrell Baskin, and Aimee Macel were extremely professional in arranging my initial consultation and surgery date, handling finance matters, and assisting with post-operative appointments. My situation was unique - arrangements were handled via e-mail and your staff went the "extra mile" to ensure that everything flowed smoothly. This was critical - my travel schedule was very limited and your staff's extra efforts were greatly appreciated.

On the day of the surgery, I met you for the first time and also Dr. Mark Whitten. During my pre-operative consultation, you thoroughly explained the procedure, the results that could be expected, and what to expect after the surgery. Dr. Whitten's calm demeanor during surgery was very reassuring and based on his prior record, I had complete confidence that the results would be outstanding. In fact I was not nervous at all - I could not wait to have the procedure done. Surgery was smooth and I felt great afterwards. In fact, I never felt any pain or discomfort at anytime after the surgery.

During my latest follow-up visit last August, I was amazed at the results. My vision was 20/20 in my right eye and 20/15 in my left. The results have been incredible. My distance vision is clear and my depth perception has improved tremendously. I am more comfortable performing my job duties because I am no longer worried about contact lenses drying out or becoming uncomfortable after a long day. Shortly after this visit, I arrived in La Paz. La Paz is the highest capital city in the world. The international airport (also the highest in the world) sits at 13,300 feet while the Embassy is at 12,000 feet. I was concerned what effect the extreme altitude and dry conditions would have on my vision. After six months in La Paz, I am very pleased to say that the conditions here have had no effect on my vision. In fact, I have been fishing at about 15,000 feet with no vision problems.

Having LASIK was one of the best decisions I have made. It was well worth the cost and I have recommended this procedure to others both in and outside of the law enforcement/security field. Thanks to the doctors and staff for making the LASIK experience a positive one. I look forward to seeing you and your staff during my one-year follow-up visit in March.
